Jatropha
Jatropha is being considered by agricultural experts as the plant with the largest potential forĀ the production of biofuels. It grows even in semi-arid areas, yields for 30-50 years, stops erosion, improves the micro-climate, is relatively labour efficient, can be grown by outgrowers as well as in large farms and generates bio-fertilizer as a by-product (the seed cake). It does not compete with human consumption as it is bitter, but can be used also locally to light lamps and local ovens that are currently run be unhealthy kerosene. Jatropha oil is also being used to produce soap with positive medical effects.
The company produces Jatropha, which is processed into Jatropha oil and Jatropha seed cake and Jatropha husks. In addition it grows food crops like beans or soya depending on the local and international market demand.
Jatropha is a plant ideally qualified to satisfy the demand for energy at competitive cost while serving host countries, job creation, sustainable development, use of land and the world climate.
